· Sand Blasting Media:
When used as a blasting media, walnut shell grit is extremely durable yet it is a soft abrasive for blasting soft or delicate material, and is extremely effective in removing paint, dirt, grease scale, carbon etc. It remains unchanged and is re-usable when reclaimed in sandblast cabinets.
- Fine Grade is used to clean and not damage or dent wood, aluminium, brass, and sheet metals, the low heat prevents warping of materials. Also used to clean rust, grease, carbon, or scale on car parts like Carburetors , Intake Manifolds, Turbo Chargers, and Exhausts. Audi, Porsche and BMW do this as part of a Major Service.
- Fine Grade can take off single layers of paint or Graffiti, while leaving undercoat or wood panels undamaged. Does not etch wood or pit metal. Use to safely blast soft or thin metals, bricks, or wood at 120psi.
- Coarse or Extra Coarse Grade is used by Ships to clear out scale from huge Diesel Turbo Chargers & Exhausts.
· Spark Plug Cleaning: use Fine Grade.
· Tumbler Polishing Media:
- Use Medium Grade or Coarse for polishing brass, rocks, or stones.
- Use Coarse Grade for polishing brass bullet casings for reloading shells if old Primers left in. Use Extra Coarse if Primers removed, as Coarse can block the Primer hole. Tumble for 2hrs with a squirt of Turtle Car Wax for shiny shells!

- Use Medium Grade to make non slip floor paints and wood decking coatings.

THE HISTORY OF SANDBLASTING WITH CRUSHED WALNUT SHELLS:
In the 1960’s the U.S. Navy pioneered a new method of removing paint from Navy submarines using FINE and MEDIUM CRUSHED WALNUT SHELLS.
The Navy had been refurbishing ship hulls by sandblasting them with abrasive mineral grit that removed all of the layers of paint and coatings down to bare steel, which proved costly to repaint.
They found that FINE Walnut Shells removed the top coating of paint or Graffiti, while leaving the valuable undercoating intact. The coarser MEDIUM Grade was used to take multiple top layers of paint off, while leaving undercoat intact. This innovation offered the Navy significant savings in time and money, and helped pioneer environmentally-friendly paint removal.
