VW 2009 petrol 2.0TSI Tiguan 240000kms on the clock and misfiring like crazy at idle and slow speeds. After the Walnut clean up runs like new and has a heap more power.
I was looking at all the purpose built media blasting machines on line at $400-2000 thinking wow that a bit silly and none in stock in Australia apart from the $2000 one. So I used my old engine wash gun and turned the compressor up high. I used an old house vacuum cleaner to suck up the blasted material.
Used approximately 1kg of walnut to blast complete all 4 cylinders, to what I would quote as a close to as NEW finish as you could get, without removing the cylinder head and valves.
Remove the intake manifold off the engine to get access to the cylinder head chambers of the intake valves. Make sure you rotate the engine until the valves are 100% closed on the cylinder you are working on. Install a vacuum attachment over the exposed intake port to vacuum up the carbon and used walnut shell grit.
To use the Adapter:
With your intake ports exposed, hook up your vaccum to the large tube, and insert your nozzle in the small hole and blast away your carbon with walnut media. The vacuum suction will suck and grip the tool to the head surface and allow you to slide it around to get every corner of the intake port. Chemical solutions cannot remove carbon as effectively and safely as walnut blasting.
Fine crushed walnut shells are used instead of other blasting media as they can’t damage or alter the metal surfaces inside your engine. It can also be burned which means any bits that remain after a walnut blasting service is completed will burn off once the vehicle’s engine is started. Walnut shell blasting uses natural crushed & cleaned walnut shells that are non-toxic and biodegradable.
